Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance

By Angela Duckworth

A FAN Book Study

Already wondering how you or your child will make it to Winter Break? About to give in and give up? How about finding something you're passionate about? Join FAN in reading "Grit" to reflect and rejuvenate!  Our fall event will be a book study where we discuss Angela Duckworth's best selling book "Grit."

We would love for you to join us, even if you don't have time to read the book. We will provide summaries and discussion questions. Join us for great conversation and light refreshments!

Where: CMHS library

When: November 8th from 6:30-8:00

Who: Any CMSD12 parent/guardian and any CM High School students

About the author: Leaving a high-flying job in consulting, Angela Lee Duckworth took a job teaching math to seventh graders in a New York public school. She quickly realized that IQ wasn't the only thing separating the successful students from those who struggled. Click the  link below for a short Ted Talk where Angela Lee Duckworth explains her theory of "grit" as a predictor of success.

WHAT IS FAN?

The Family Awareness Network strives to offer resources and programs that inform, engage and encourage parents of Cheyenne Mountain High School students.

Throughout the year, FAN offers events and programs on various topics of interest to parents. In addition, FAN supports the efforts of the counseling department and administration in providing information targeted to specific interest groups such as parents of each grade level, college-bound students or those facing particular wellness issues.

Family Awareness Network is a committee of parents, counselors, teachers, and administrators and encourages all parents to get involved.

To suggest programs and/or volunteer for FAN, email monicapeloso@comcast.net or kherriott@cmsd12.org.

Future Event

Our second event will be February 13th at 6:00 at CMJH. This event will be a parent enrichment night. We will have a Keynote speaker (TBD), followed by different breakout sessions addressing current issues affecting families.
